Well Water
Testing
Our water from dug or drilled wells is tested by the Ontario
Public Health labs in Orillia. Prepared water sample bottles can be
obtained from the Lab or from one of the Simcoe
Muskoka
Health Units. Samples can be dropped into the Health Unit during
working hours.
NOTE:
The after hours drop off box in Orillia has been closed. Please
consult the links here for a Public Health office to drop off your
water sample during business hours or look up your local Public
Health office at home. Paul has found he can take his sample into
the local public health office.
You need to use one of the prepared water sample bottles and follow
the instructions that come with it or view it on-line
here. Results can be obtained over the phone, mailed to you or
you can pick them up.
If you have an older dug well,. you may want to take a
sample of both filtered and unfiltered water. This is what Well Aware
Program advises. When Paul Naish has his well tested, it
was loaded with eColi. Fortunately, the filtered water passed.
However, there is always a concern in washing and showering with eColi
lasted water. There is a chlorination protocol to clean the dug
well.
If you need work done on a dug
well, there are few people who will touch a dug well they did not
install. One person to contact is
